Bill Skarsgård Flippant Over Airport Drugs Arrest
Bill Skarsgård, the Swedish actor famous for his terrifying role as Pennywise in the It film series, has surprisingly taken a lighthearted approach to his 2023 arrest and subsequent guilty plea for drug possession. The incident occurred last October when Skarsgård was arrested at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport for possessing 2.43 grams of marijuana.
In a recent interview with Esquire magazine, Skarsgård quipped that it was not his first time carrying the drug but, “it was my first time getting caught.” The actor, who was fined 40,000 Swedish Krona (£2,950) for the offense, also opened up about his difficult relationship with fame. Skarsgård shared an early memory of his father, Stellan Skarsgård, drawing attention when they were in public together, making him feel “violated” and “scared.”
Skarsgård also spoke about the strict drug laws in Sweden, stating that there are “ways to go in Sweden in terms of legalising it and just generally being very conservative in that aspect.” He believes that legalizing marijuana could help alleviate the country’s strict drug policies.
The 33-year-old actor, whose family is deeply rooted in the acting profession, also expressed his reservations about the effects of fame on his life. Skarsgård acknowledged that “not a lot of us are happy” and that increased fame only makes life more “turbulent and scary.” This sentiment is echoed by his brother, Alexander Skarsgård, who has also spoken publicly about the challenges of fame. The Skarsgård family is known for their numerous acting roles, including Stellan Skarsgård’s appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Alexander Skarsgård’s roles in TV shows such as True Blood and Big Little Lies.
Bill Skarsgård has enjoyed a successful career, starring in blockbuster films like It, Allegiant, and John Wick: Chapter 4. Despite his recent legal issue, the actor appears to be taking it in stride, showing a sense of humor and perspective on the situation.
