Nicholas Galitzine to Play He-Man in the Long-Awaited Live-Action ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film
The wait is finally over for fans of the iconic ’80s franchise, as Nicholas Galitzine has been cast as He-Man in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of ‘Masters of the Universe.’ The 29-year-old star will bring the legendary character to life in a new film produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, set to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
Galitzine’s previous roles include starring in Amazon’s romantic comedy ‘The Idea of You’ and appearing in the young adult adaptation ‘Red, White, & Royal Blue.’ This marks his second collaboration with the streaming giant, following his role in the movie musical ‘Cinderella.’ The versatile actor is represented by the UK’s Curtis Brown Group, WME, Anonymous Content, and Gang Tyre.
The film, directed by Travis Knight, who is known for his work on ‘Bumblebee’ and ‘Kubo and the Two Strings,’ will follow the story of Prince Adam, who transforms into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, after wielding the magical Power Sword. The story will be penned by Chris Butler, with production overseen by Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, alongside Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner.
The ‘Masters of the Universe’ franchise has a long history in Hollywood, with various filmmakers and stars attached to the project over the years. Originally introduced as action figures in 1982, the franchise was adapted into an animated series in 1983 and has since seen numerous film and television adaptations. The latest iteration has had a tumultuous road to the big screen, with the project being dropped by Netflix in 2021 due to budget concerns.
Despite the setbacks, the new film is expected to be an epic reintroduction of the character and his universe, as stated by Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios: “We’re thrilled to bring the cherished ‘Masters of the Universe’ to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the incredibly talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man. This reimagining of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will captivate audiences from here to Eternia.”
The ‘Masters of the Universe’ franchise is part of Mattel’s diverse lineup of live-action movies in development, which includes projects such as ‘Barney,’ ‘Unicorn Store,’ and ‘Uno.’ The film’s release date marks an exciting milestone for fans of the beloved franchise, and with Nicholas Galitzine at the helm, the anticipation is palpable for the long-awaited adaptation of ‘Masters of the Universe’ to hit the big screen.
