Annabelle begins with John Form (Horton) finding the perfect doll for his pregnant wife, Mia (Wallis), at a antique store. Mia is thrilled with the doll, which she names Annabelle. That night, the couple is attacked by a satanic cult, who stab John to death and leave Mia for dead. Mia survives, but the couple’s daughter, Annabelle, is stillborn.
The cultists break into the Form’s home in an attempt to steal the Annabelle doll, but are thwarted by Mia and the police. Mia is institutionalized after the ordeal and the doll is placed in the care of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Amendola and Woodard), who are paranormal investigators.
The Warrens keep the doll locked in a glass case in their artifacts room. However, the doll is soon possessed by a demon and starts to terrorize the Warrens and their daughter, Judy (Kathleen Chalfant).
The Warrens eventually call in a Catholic priest, Father Perez (Brian Howe), to perform an exorcism on the doll. However, the doll proves to be too powerful for the priest and it attacks and kills him.
The Warrens then call in a group of demonologists to help them deal with the doll. However, the demonologists are quickly killed by the doll.
The Warrens finally call in a group of paranormal investigators, who are able to trap the demon inside the doll. The film ends with the doll being locked away in the Warrens’ artifacts room, where it remains to this day.
7. Amityville Horror
The Amityville Horror is a 1979 American supernatural horror film directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starring James Brolin, Margot Kidder, and Rod Steiger. It is based on Jay Anson’s 1977 book of the same name, which is allegedly based on a true story. The film tells the story of the Lutz family, who move into a house in Amityville, Long Island, only to be terrorized by demonic forces.
The film was a box office success, grossing over $86 million worldwide, and spawned a franchise of sequels and spin-offs. It is also one of the most iconic and well-known horror films of all time.
